Description of the workplace

One to two project assistant positions are available at the laboratory of Barrier Immunity – a newly formed research group interested in antibody formation and host-microbiota interaction at barrier surfaces. The project assistants hired through this call are expected to work with the principal investigator to build a strong and supportive research environment.

Work duties and areas of responsibility

The selected candidate is expected to provide organizational and technical research support to the lab. Full proficiency in English is necessary for this role. Organizational responsibilities include effective and continuous lab work management, ordering of reagents, management of lab’s research resources and planning experiments. Technical research support entitles ability to assist in immunology and microbiology research, including maintenance of bacterial cultures, murine colonies and work with in vivo and in vitro systems.

Qualifications

Requirements for employment are:

  • BSc degree in Biology or Biomedicine with a focus on Immunology and Microbiology
  • Full written/spoken proficiency in English
  • LAS (laboratory animal science) certification:
    - Ability to perform animal experiments
    - Strategic and effective maintenance of mouse colonies
  • Ability to perform microbiology techniques:
    - Maintenance of aerobe and anaerobe bacteria cultures
    - Strain isolation from human/mouse material
    - Sample preparation for 16S sequencing
  • Ability to perform immunology techniques:
    - Flow cytometry
    - ELISA/ELISPOT
    - Confocal microscopy
  • Documented experience working with human tissue cultures/samples.

Great emphasis will be held at personal suitability. The position requires demonstrated independence, great problem solving skills and ability to collaborate.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • MSc degree in Biology or Biomedicine with a focus on Immunology and Microbiology
  • Experience in bioinformatics is of special merit
  • Experience in lab management is of special merit:
    - KLARA system (chemicals)
    - Mosaic (management of mouse colonies)
    - Proceedo (ordering)
  • Driving license
