The crisis of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is expected to disproportionately impact health, livelihoods and economies of low- and middle-income countries. Action against AMR will be truly global, effective and sustainable if it takes into account the realities, challenges and possibilities of the Global South. There is a strong need that the Global Action Plan (GAP) on AMR, which is currently undergoing a process of revision, adequately captures the voice of the Global South. Led by the Quadripartite Joint Secretariat on AMR, the draft updated GAP-AMR 2.0 is expected to be submitted to the WHO governing bodies this month, for subsequent adoption at the 79th World Health Assembly in May 2026. To mark the World AMR Week 2025, we are organising an international webinar on the subject. CSE has been proactively involved in building an opinion on Global South action. In September this year, it had organised a three-day international workshop to bring together perspectives of some of the countries in Global South (Asia and Africa). The key takeaways from the workshop have been compiled into a report which has been shared with the Quadripartite Joint Secretariat on AMR.
