Abstract
Two more babies have been added to the patient count for an outbreak of infant botulism infections traced to ByHeart powdered infant formula. The Food and Drug Administration reports that there are now 39 infants across 18 states from coast to coast who are infected. Most infants with infant botulism will initially develop constipation, poor feeding, loss of head control, and difficulty swallowing, which can progress to difficulty breathing and respiratory arrest. Testing by government agencies and ByHeart has found botulism spores in the company's powdered infant formula.
