Abstract

Defending our Health: The Value of Rapid Diagnostics in AMR Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a significant global health crisis, threatening to undo decades of progress. To stay ahead of the curve, we must reevaluate how we diagnose and respond to infections. To make headway, health systems must ramp up the AMR testing volume in proportion to the diagnostic data collection and reporting. This pie of innovation in diagnostic technology is a crucial global effort: it promises to slow AMR's growth, preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics, and reduce mortality. While this push for innovation will allow policymakers and clinicians to capture a more comprehensive view of how antibiotics affect microbial ecosystems, not just pathogens, concepts like the Microbiome Safety Index could be a breakthrough, creating a framework that links microbiome safety to rapid diagnostics and the development of narrow-spectrum antibiotics.
