Abstract
The yeast Malassezia helps protect the skin from bacterial infections, but only up to a certain point. Scientists at the University of Oregon have identified a molecule produced by a common yeast found on human skin that exhibits strong antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, a bacterium responsible for approximately 500,000 hospitalizations each year in the United States.
