Abstract
Diabetes increases susceptibility to various types of infections that cause considerable morbidity and mortality. The most common sites of infection in patients with diabetes are the skin, soft tissues, urinary tract, and respiratory tract. A few infections, such as malignant otitis externa, rhinocerebral mucormycosis, and emphysematous pyelonephritis, occur almost exclusively in patients with diabetes.
