Abstract
The British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) welcomes the Chief Medical Officer's Annual Report and strongly supports its clear warning against complacency in the face of the evolving and complex threat of infection. We also fully endorse the CMO's statement that infections are global, and that protecting the UK population requires ongoing investment in global health architecture—including data sharing, research partnerships, and the co-development of diagnostics and treatments. This echoes the observations of the latest ESPAUR report, which found people living in the most deprived communities in the UK had a 47.2% higher rate of resistant bacteraemia compared to those in the least deprived areas. We stand ready to work with the CMO's office, NHS England, UKHSA and other key partners to develop a coherent national framework for AMS education, training and quality improvement—including clarity on the role of Regional Infection Groups in delivering and sustaining these expectations.
