Abstract
🌍 Antibiotics Changed the World — But Leadership Will Shape Their Future Before antibiotics, pneumonia, TB, puerperal fever and postoperative infections routinely took lives. With their discovery, healthcare transformed: mortality dropped, surgery became safer, and previously untreatable diseases became survivable. We face: • rising antimicrobial resistance • complex biofilms and intracellular pathogens • disrupted microbiomes • a world where prescribing pressure often competes with stewardship responsibility Antibiotics remain one of the most powerful tools in modern medicine — but only if we protect them. It requires: • strong stewardship culture • policy that supports good decision-making • education that changes behaviour • investment in diagnostics and innovation • courage to balance safety, risk, and sustainability 💬 I would really value insight from healthcare leaders, IPC professionals, pharmacists, microbiologists and policymakers: 👉 What practical leadership actions make the biggest difference in protecting antibiotic effectiveness?
